Scholarship Summary:
Vanderbilt University expends its awards and assistantship funds for the twin purposes of attracting superior graduate students (domestic and international) and providing assistance to the faculty in instruction and research. Financial awards are available in several forms, with considerable variation from one program to another. Please note that students admitted to master's degree programs in the Graduate School are also offered financial aid, but not as frequently or to the same extent as are Ph.D. students.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for a Graduate Scholarship at Vanderbilt, you must;
• Be admitted for a full-time graduate program
• Demonstrate exceptional academic potential
Value of Scholarship:
The Vanderbilt Graduate Scholarships are valued as follows;
i. University Tuition Scholarship: valued up to $35,000 for the nine month academic year. Ph.D. students can generally expect to receive teaching/research assistantships that pay all or part of tuition, medical insurance, and a supplemental income stipend ranging from $28,000 to $35,000 per year for five years.
ii. The University Graduate Fellowship: a stipend of up to $5000 is a supplement to a fellowship, assistantship, traineeship, or tuition award and is awarded for a period of up to three years for the PhD, or up to two years for terminal master's programs.
iii. Provost's Graduate Fellowship: provides a $10,000 stipend awarded as a supplement to any other funding that is offered to the applicant and is made for a period of five years. Strictly for U.S. citizens and permanent residents from diverse backgrounds who intend to pursue a PhD degree.

To apply;
1. Every graduate admission application is reviewed to determine if the applicant is eligible for a graduate award; no other application is required.
2. Individual departments nominate applicants for the available awards, and decisions are announced by the Graduate School in early March.
