Scholarship Summary: 
Philander Smith University offers freshman awards to outstanding incoming freshmen students (domestic and international). These awards are based upon both academic-merit and demonstrated financial need; both factors are essential in the awarding of institutional aid.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria: 
To be eligible for consideration, the following minimum criteria must be met;
i. Thomas Mason Scholar: 3.5 GPA AND 25 ACT or 1230 SAT
ii. George C. Taylor Scholar: 3.0 GPA AND 20 ACT or 1130 SAT
iii. An admission deposit is required to reserve the scholarship offer.
iv. These awards are based upon both academic-merit and demonstrated financial need. Both factors are essential in the awarding of institutional aid.

Value of Scholarship: 
The freshman awards are valued as follows;
i. The Thomas Mason Scholarship covers the full tuition cost & fees per academic year for four years
ii. The George C. Taylor Scholar is valued as $6,000 per academic year for four years
  • Both scholarships are renewable annually, provided recipients maintain the requisite GPA.
