Scholarship Summary:
South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is committed to rewarding incoming freshmen (domestic and international) who have excelled in their academic studies and will award merit scholarships based on GPA and SAT/ACT test scores.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for scholarship consideration at SDSMT, you must;
• Must be accepted for admission to South Dakota Mines by the priority scholarship deadline of January 15
• Obtain a minimum 3.0 unweighted cumulative GPA from high school
• Have a minimum 24 ACT or 1160 SAT
To maintain this scholarship, students must have at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA), maintain full-time enrollment by enrolling in a minimum of 12 School of Mines credit hours each semester (there are limited exceptions that students must discuss with the Financial Aid Office) and continue progress towards completion of their undergraduate degree.
Value of Scholarship:
The SDSMT Freshman Merit Scholarships are valued as follows;
i. Presidential Scholar: $7,000/year {Required: 35-36 ACT/1530 SAT}
ii. Gold Scholar: $5,000/year {Required: 34 ACT/1490 SAT}
iii. Silver Scholar: $4,000/year {Required: 31-33 ACT/1390 SAT}
iv. Copper Scholar: $3,000/year {Required: 28-30 ACT/1300 SAT}
v. Miner Scholar: $2,000/year {Required: 25-27 ACT/1200 SAT}
vi. Hardrock Scholar: $1,000/year {Required: 24 ACT/1160 SAT}
Scholarship Application Guide:
In order to be considered for incoming freshmen scholarships, prospective students must be accepted for admission to South Dakota Mines by the priority scholarship deadline of January 15. After the deadline of January 15, no additional test scores or updated high school transcripts will be considered.
