Scholarship Summary:
York University awards generous application-based scholarships to international applicants who have an exceptional academic profile, and demonstrate leadership through community service or excellence in the arts or sport. Students do not need an offer of admission to apply for York entrance awards and scholarships.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants;
• Must be an international student who is required to have a Study Permit to study in Canada
• Must have applied to an undergraduate degree program at York that begins in Fall 2024
• Must have applied to York directly from high school no more than two years after graduation, and have no previous university or college studies
• Must have an excellent academic record with a minimum “A” average or equivalent
• Must have demonstrated leadership through community service or excellence in the arts, sports, or other areas of individual achievement
• Must be nominated by their high school (schools may nominate one student only)
- The nominated student will be considered for the International Entrance Scholarship of Distinction, the Global Leader of Tomorrow Award, the International Circle of Scholars Scholarships, and the York University Academic Excellence Scholarships
- Candidates must speak to their school guidance counsellor, principal, or administration about the York International Student Scholarship & Award Application, and receive confirmation that they are the individual from that school who has been nominated
- The candidate must then provide the name, position, e-mail, and phone number of the nominator in the application form
Value of Scholarship:
The York International Application-Based Scholarships are valued as follows;
i. President’s International Scholarship of Excellence: CAD$180,000 (CAD$45,000 over four years) {20 awards available}
ii. Tentanda Via Award: CAD$120,000 (CAD$30,000 over four years) {15 awards available}
iii. Global Leader of Tomorrow Award: CAD$80,000 (CAD$20,000 over four years) {2 awards available}
iv. International Circle of Scholar’s Scholarship: CAD$15,000 for the first year of study only {1 award available}
v. York University Academic Excellence Scholarship: CAD$5,000 - CAD$10,000 for the first year of study only {5-10 awards available}
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Complete an application for admission into York; you will receive a 9-digit York reference number which is required for the application-based scholarship, within 5 business days of applying to York. You must submit your application to York by January 15, 2024 at the latest.
ii. Complete and submit the online International Student Scholarship Application by February 15, 2024 at 11:59:59pm, Eastern Time (the name, position, e-mail, and phone number of the nominator in the application form must be provided in the form). By submitting the International Student Scholarship & Award Application, you will be considered for all of the scholarships listed above.
iii. Application process consists of submission of a personal statement from applicant explaining the grounds under which they are applying and how they meet the criteria (500 words or less), a financial profile, list of activities and volunteer experiences and two letters of reference one of which must be academic.)
iv. Ensure all required documents are shown as “Received” in the York application (MyFile), by February 15, 2024 at 11:59:59pm, Eastern Time
