GUIDE TO MAKING AN APPLICATION FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS FRESHMAN MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

There is no separate application to complete when applying for the University of Kansas freshman merit scholarships and thus, the admission application is the only determinant to consider when vying for merit awards.

Let’s thus break down the admission process for the University of Kansas;

1. ACADEMIC ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

University of Kansas is one of the few institutions that don’t require test scores in order to make an admission or scholarship decision but the minimum GPA requirement does start off on the high end. The University of Kansas requires a minimum of 3.25 GPA for entry into undergraduate study for any of its colleges.
First-year students are assured admission into KU’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences or School of Social Welfare if they meet one of these combinations:
  • A 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale, no test scores required or regardless of test score submitted
  • An ACT score of at least 21 or an SAT score of at least 1060 plus a GPA of at least 2.0
If you don’t obtain the required GPA of 3.25 and are applying test-optional, University of Kansas will consider your GPA if you’ve had a more difficult curriculum than the average incoming freshman.

2. APPLICATION DIFFICULTY

The University of Kansas admission application process is very straightforward and has fewer frills than a lot of schools. You will need to submit your transcripts for cumulative GPA verification, an essay and a recommendation from two persons. The essay prompt requires concise and honest answers and should be easy to complete after a few drafts.

3. AWARDED AMOUNT

To ascertain the scholarship amount, look at the scholarship table above to ascertain the scholarship amount you are eligible for; for example, if you obtained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.43 and are an out-of-state resident, you are eligible to receive the KU Access award which has a value of $8,000 per year.
