The McDaniel Dorsey Scholarship covers the annual cost of tuition, room and board for eight consecutive semesters or the completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

Scholarship Application Guide:

To apply for this scholarship;
i. All applicants who submit their application for admission before December 15 are considered for the Dorsey Scholarship. Admissions counselors identify possible Dorsey Scholars by reviewing the academic record and academic rigor of each applicant, as well as assessing character, motivation and potential for success.

ii. Approximately 20 students, representing the top 2% of the applicant pool, are invited to participate in the Dorsey Scholars competition. Students are invited in January by their admissions counselor and also receive a print invitation.

iii. The Dorsey Competition occurs the day before the annual Scholars on the Hill event. Dorsey candidates arrive on Friday afternoon and participate in the Dorsey interview, an in-person interview with McDaniel faculty and representatives. This interview assesses the qualities of each Dorsey Scholar candidate.

iv. Following the interview, Dorsey candidates have an opportunity to socialize with current Dorsey Scholars while parents have an opportunity to meet with the President and other college administrators. Candidates will stay overnight with Dorsey Scholar hosts. The next day, candidates will participate in the Scholars on the Hill event with other high-achieving students.

v. Approximately two weeks after the Dorsey Competition, 3-5 candidates will be notified that they are Dorsey Scholarship recipients. Candidates who participated in the Dorsey Competition will be considered for other merit scholarships, including Presidential Scholarships.
