Western National Scholarships are designed to recognize all-round excellence. They are awarded on the basis of outstanding academic performance to candidates (domestic and international) who demonstrate ability for creative and innovative thought and a passion for the pursuit of learning.
National Scholarships also recognize exceptional achievement in extracurricular activities such as the arts and athletics. A special emphasis is placed on a candidate's commitment to community service through ongoing contributions to school and community life.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must;
i. Be Canadian Citizens or a Permanent Resident of Canada (International students are only eligible for the International President's Entrance Scholarships and the President's Entrance Scholarship for Black Students).
ii. Have obtained a minimum overall academic average of 90% on all Grade 12U/M courses (or equivalent).
iii. Submit an admission application to Western University (main campus) to be considered for these scholarships
iv. Register as a full-time student.
v. The Beryl Ivey Continuing Entrance Scholarship has a financial need component. A supplemental application in addition to the National Scholarship application is required for students to be considered.
Value of Scholarship:
The Western National Scholarships are valued as follows;
i. President’s Entrance Scholarships
1 at $70,000 ($25,000 for year one, $15,000 annually for years two to four)
4 at $65,000 ($20,000 for year one, $15,000 annually for years two to four) and;
Up to 15 at $50,000 ($20,000 for year one, $10,000 annually for years two to four)
ii. James Jenkins President’s Entrance Scholarship for Black Students
5 at $50,000 ($20,000 for year one, $10,000 annually for years two to four)
iii. Beryl Ivey Continuing Entrance Scholarship
ONE at $72,000; payable $18,000 per academic year for a period of four years.
iv. Neen Hodgins National Entrance Scholarship
ONE at $80,000; payable $20,000 per academic year for a period of four years.
v. Neen Hodgins President's International Entrance Scholarship
ONE at up to $80,000; payable $20,000 per academic year for a period of four years.
vi. International President's Entrance Scholarships
3 at $50,000 ($20,000 for year one, $10,000 annually for years two to four)
vii. Faculty Entrance Scholarships
Up to 15 at $30,000 ($12,000 for year one, $6,000 annually for years two to four)
viii. National Scholarship Study Abroad Awards
Up to 46 at $2,500 for up to 4 months (one term), $5,000 for over 4 months (more than one term)
ix. National Merit Awards
Those students who are interviewed for a National Scholarship but not offered a National Scholarship or a Schulich Leader Scholarship and accepting an offer of admission to main campus will receive a one-year National Merit Award valued at $2,000. Recipients will also retain eligibility for an Admission Scholarship ranging in value from $2,500 to $8,000.

To apply;
i. Each applicant must be by their school to be considered for the National Scholarship Program. It is up to each school to determine their process for having their students seek a nomination and for selecting the students who will receive a nomination. Each school is able to nominate up to 4 students for the National Scholarship Program.
ii. Complete the online National Scholarship Application for Canadian students or the application for international students
iii. Submit a completed essay as outlined on the scholarship application
iv. Submit high school transcripts (to be provided by school)
v. Submit Reference Letter (from school)
vi. Complete the Supplemental Application form - To be completed in addition to the National Scholarship Application IF you wish to be considered for the Beryl Ivey Continuing Entrance Award and the Neen Hodgins National Entrance Scholarship.
