The OSU McKnight Scholars Leadership Program identifies, equips and empowers young scholars (domestic Oklahoma nonresidents) to become life-giving leaders.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
Typically, approximately 50 students are chosen each year based on the following requirements:
- Out-of-state, incoming student
- Acceptance to OSU
- Proven leadership ability
- Commitment to service
Additional criteria that is considered but not required includes:
- 27 ACT or 1220 SAT or above
- 3.75 GPA
- Preference for rural communities
Value of Scholarship:
The McKnight Scholars Leadership Program provides;
i. A full out-of-state tuition waiver for four years.
ii. $5,000 for all four years.
iii. A McKnight Scholars study abroad program
iv. Exclusive access to leadership courses
v. Individual mentoring from fellow McKnight Scholars
vi. Leadership aptitude testing and coaching
vii. Connections to current and past McKnight Scholars
Scholarship Application Guide:

i. Complete an application for admission into OSU
ii. Complete the scholarship application located in the
iii. Submit a recommendation
- Recommendations for the McKnight Scholars Leadership Program must be submitted by a high school administrator, counselor, teacher (or college administrator in the case of transfer student recommendation), non-parent OSU alumnus, former McKnight recipient, 4H or FFA leader, or other community group leader for which the student has been involved and served in a leadership position.
iv. Eligible students will be selected, based on demonstrated leadership ability, community service and/or work experience, academic success and extracurricular activities.
