Scholarship Summary: 
Entering first-time freshmen (domestic and international) who are accepted to Winthrop University will be considered for a merit scholarship. Scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions. No separate scholarship application is required.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria: 
To be eligible for scholarship consideration at Winthrop, you must;
Be admitted by Winthrop University and be classified as an entering first-time freshman.
Be enrolled at Winthrop University full-time (12 or more credit hours) each semester.
Demonstrate academic brilliance in high school records
  • Recipients typically have a minimum average GPA of 3.29 OR min. average GPA of 2.85 AND SAT score of 1020 or ACT score of 19.

Value of Scholarship: 
The Winthrop Freshman Merit Scholarships are valued as follows;
i. Winthrop Premier Scholarship: $7,000/year for in-state students | ($6,000 scholarship + Out-of-State Tuition Waiver) for out-of-state domestic and international students

ii. Winthrop Gold Scholarship: $6,000/year for in-state students | ($4,000 scholarship + Out-of-State Tuition Waiver) for out-of-state domestic and international students

iii. Winthrop Garnet Scholarship: $4,500/year for in-state students | ($2,500 scholarship + Out-of-State Tuition Waiver) for out-of-state domestic and international students

iv. Winthrop Blue Line Scholarship: $3,000/year for in-state students | ($1,500 scholarship + Out-of-State Tuition Waiver) for out-of-state domestic and international students

v. Winthrop Eagle Promise Scholarship: $2,000/year for in-state students | ($1,000 scholarship + Out-of-State Tuition Waiver) for out-of-state domestic and international students

A completed admission application  must be received by the Office of Admissions by the deadline for scholarship consideration. 
  • A completed application includes: application form, application fee, and official high school transcript. 

Students submitting applications and scores after the deadline, will be considered for scholarships if funds are available.
