The Leading Scholar Award at Michigan Tech recognizes resident and non-resident domestic high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and scholarly achievements both in and outside the classroom.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
Academically talented high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to impact. are encouraged to apply. In general, applicants should meet the following academic guidelines:
- 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA at time of application (on a 4.00 scale)
Finalists will be selected based on acceptance status, essay, and involvement
Value of Scholarship:
All finalists who attend one of the on-campus events will receive one of the following scholarships which are valued between $2,000 per year up to full coverage/tuition.
i. Leading Scholar Commended Finalist Award: $2,000 per year
ii. Leading Scholar Distinguished Finalist Award: $4,500 per year
iii. Leading Scholar Award;
- Michigan Residents: full tuition, room and board, and $1,000 stipend (approximately $34,750) per year
- Non-Michigan Residents: full non-resident tuition (approximately $44,504) per year
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Complete an application for admission into MTU by November 1st.
ii. Complete the ; Leading Scholar applications are due by the above deadline (eastern time);
a. Create an account using your personal email address and set your own password
b. You will need to complete an essay prompt in the scholarship application.
c. You will also need to submit a nominator letter of recommendation by the deadline
iii. November 30: Finalists are selected and notified. Notification will be made on the Leading Scholar application portal. Students not selected as a finalist will be notified on the application portal. Selected finalists must register to attend by December 15.
iv. January 2026: On-campus in-person finalist event. Finalists will register to attend one event; dates are first-come, first-served.
v. Mid-March: Award notifications are mailed
