Scholarship Summary: 
A limited number of first-year students (domestic and international) are awarded the highly selective Honors Scholarships at Eastern Mennonite University. These Honors Scholarships are renewable for three additional years and are awarded on the basis of academic performance in high school and demonstrated leadership potential.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
There are no set criteria but past recipients were in the top 5% of the applicant pool.

Value of Scholarship:
The EMU Honors Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship for all four years.

Scholarship Application Guide: 
To apply;
i. Complete an undergraduate application to EMU and submit your high school transcript by November 1st. Once admitted to EMU, submit your Yoder/Webb application using your EMU ID and have your reference form by February 12, 2024.

Applicants need to have the following submitted/postmarked by February 12, 2024:
  • Two response pieces (see details in the scholarship link below)
  • A resume indicating school, church, and civic involvement
  • One reference (choose one person from the following group that can affirm applicant's abilities in scholarship priorities): senior English, math or science teacher, school counselor, pastor/youth pastor, or employer. References may be submitted at www.emu.edu/honors-reference.
  • An updated copy of your transcript that includes grades from the first semester of the current school year
ii. The application process will culminate with an online interview with a member of the honors faculty. Interviews will take place beginning the week of February 19, 2024. 
  • The EMU honors faculty conduct the Yoder/Webb Scholars competition, rigorously evaluating candidates’ academic performance, community and extra-curricular involvement, creativity, clarity of thought, and leadership potential. Participation in the competition requires candidates to construct a portfolio of their high school achievements, write a series of essays, and meet with a member of EMU honors faculty for a one-on-one interview.
iii. Winning candidates are notified by early March of their selection to be a Yoder/Webb Scholar, and they have until April 1st to accept or decline the award.
