The Leading Scholar Award at Michigan Tech recognizes resident and non-resident domestic high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and scholarly achievements both in and outside the classroom.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
Academically talented high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to impact. are encouraged to apply. In general, applicants should meet the following academic guidelines:
- 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA at time of application (on a 4.00 scale)
Finalists will be selected based on academic credentials, written application, and campus interview
Value of Scholarship:
All finalists who attend one of the on-campus events will receive one of the following scholarships;
i. Commended Leading Scholar Finalist Award: $2,000 per year
ii. Distinguished Leading Scholar Finalist Award: $4,500 per year
iii. Leading Scholar Award;
- Michigan Residents: full tuition, room and board, and $1,000 stipend (approximately $36,717) per year
- Non-Michigan Residents: full non-resident tuition (approximately $46,294) per year
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Complete an application for admission into MTU by November 1st.
ii. Complete the ; Leading Scholar applications are due by the above deadline (eastern time);
- Create an account using your personal email address and set your own password
- You will need to complete an essay prompt in the scholarship application.
- You will also need to submit a nominator letter of recommendation by the deadline
iii. November 30: Decisions regarding Leading Scholar finalists will be sent out no later than November 30. Applicants chosen as finalists will receive an initial notification in their Husky Portal followed by a physical invitation in the mail with more event details. Selected finalists must register to attend by December 15.
iv. January-February 2027: On-campus in-person finalist event. Finalists will register to attend one event; dates are first-come, first-served.
v. Mid-March: Award notifications are mailed
