University of Miami is awarding the Ronald A. Hammond Scholarship to diverse high school seniors (US citizens and permanent residents) who have demonstrated academic excellence and who are committed to UM's campus community and its values.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
There are no set criteria for consideration but past recipients of this award were in the top 10% of the applicant pool.
Characteristics of a Hammond Scholar include;
i. They hail from underrepresented backgrounds and are typically the first in their family to graduate from a college or university.
ii. They are a diverse group of students from across the country with varied experiences, achievements, and interests
Value of Scholarship:
Hammond Scholars receive the full cost of tuition for four years of undergraduate study at UM. A minimum of a 3.0 GPA for the academic year must be maintained at the University of Miami to retain this scholarship.
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Apply for admission to UM by the deadline and submit all required .
ii. Selected candidates for the Hammond Scholarship will be prompted to submit an essay for consideration as finalists.
- School counselors may nominate an applicant or applicants they feel match the Portrait of a Hammond Scholar.
- Current and former Hammond Scholars may also nominate an applicant or applicants they feel match the Portrait of a Hammond Scholar.
- Nomination forms for the Hammond Scholarship must be submitted by November 14.
- Important: Nominations are not required. All prospective students who apply by the deadline (Early Action or Early Decision I) are automatically considered for the Hammond Scholarship.
iii. The Selection Committee will review all essay submissions and identify the finalists whom they recommend to receive the Hammond Scholarship.
iv. Recipients of the Hammond Scholarship will be invited to participate in the University of Miami's scholarship program, which will be held in the spring. During this program, candidates will meet with UM faculty and current scholars and learn more about UM's interest-driven education.
