Scholarship Summary:
The University of Notre Dame is awarding the Hesburgh-Yusko Scholarship (HYSP), a highly selective scholarship and leadership development program, to domestic and international freshmen students who are passionate about making a difference in the world.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
There is no single definition of a Hesburgh-Yusko scholar but all eligible candidates for this program are evaluated according to four criteria;
a. Demonstrated Leadership ability
b. Distinguished academic ability
c. Sincere commitment to service
d. Exemplary moral character

Value of Scholarship:
All Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars receive the following;
1. An annual award of $25,000 toward the cost of tuition for up to four years of undergraduate study, for a total of $100,000. This award is independent of any financial aid that a scholar may qualify for and receive.

2. Mandatory participation in a funded one-week Outward Bound Wilderness Leadership Canoe Expedition in the Boundary Waters in Minnesota.

3. All Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars are required to participate in four Summer Enrichment Experiences – Wilderness Leadership, Social Justice, Global Inquiry, and Professional Venture – to develop and explore their interests outside of the classroom.

Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. All prospective scholars are to follow Notre Dame’s regular procedures for applying for admission and financial aid. The award selection process complements these procedures and it is strongly recommended that all applicants to Notre Dame apply for financial aid.

ii. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions manages the selection of Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars by identifying students from among the highest achieving applicants in the Restrictive Early Action and Regular Decision pools who demonstrate outstanding academic merit, strong leadership potential, and commitment to service.

iii. Prospective students who are identified as semifinalists for scholarship awards are invited to submit additional materials in February following their application for admission.

iv. Following review of these materials, finalists are invited to a campus visit weekend that includes interviews, social activities, and academic experiences.
