Eligible freshmen students (domestic) who are admitted and submit a scholarship application with all required supporting documents by the deadline will be eligible for the University of Alabama competitive Academic Elite scholarship.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To qualify for the Academic Elite Scholarship, students must;
i. earn a minimum school GPA of 3.5;
ii. earn an ACT score of 32 or a SAT score of 1420;
iii. be accepted as a member of the Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program (formerly known as the University Fellows Experience)
Value of Scholarship:
There are a total of 8 academic elite scholars named each year and these scholarships are awarded for 4 years.
Seven Academic Elite Scholarship recipients will receive:
i. Tuition for four years
ii. One year of on-campus housing at regular room rate
iii. $9,000 stipend per year undergraduate supplemental scholarship for four years
The top Academic Elite Scholarship recipient will receive:
i. Tuition for four years
ii. One year of on-campus housing at regular room rate
iii. $9,000 stipend for the first year
iv. $19,000 per year undergraduate supplemental scholarship for years 2-4
v. One-time undergraduate allowance of $5,000 for use in summer research or international study (after completing one year of study at UA)
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply for this scholarship, you must;
i. Be admitted into the University of Alabama and meet the eligibility requirements stated above.
ii. Once accepted into the University of Alabama, a prospective WITT Fellows must be accepted to the Honors College, so please complete and submit
i. earn a minimum school GPA of 3.5;
ii. earn an ACT score of 32 or a SAT score of 1420;
iii. be accepted as a member of the Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program (formerly known as the University Fellows Experience)

To apply for this scholarship, you must;
i. Be admitted into the University of Alabama and meet the eligibility requirements stated above.
ii. Once accepted into the University of Alabama, a prospective WITT Fellows must be accepted to the Honors College, so please complete and submit
an Honors application through the MyBama account prior to or concurrently with the
(opens Sep 1, 2025). - Students in WUFP must be members of the Honors College; they may apply to the Honors College before applying to WUFP or at the same time. WUFP applications must be submitted online by the above deadline;
iii. The Witt Fellows Program will accept one letter of recommendation to retain on file
with your application. Please use the included field to provide a valid email address for a
recommender who can speak to your strengths with specificity. - An automated email will be sent to your recommender with a link for letter submission and further guidelines about writing a letter to best support your application.
iv. Students will be notified of their application status through their Crimson Mail accounts.
v. Approximately 100 semifinalists will receive phone or Zoom interviews in late January 2026, after which approximately 50 finalists will be invited to the WUFP Finalist Interview Weekend, February 20 and 21, 2026.

- Due to stiff competition, the WUFP selection committee will consider the candidate’s record of impact in their community, leadership achievements, extracurricular activities, and the candidate’s essays much more heavily than grades and test scores.
- The WUFP seeks students who ultimately will make a difference throughout their lives, therefore, creativity, productivity, community engagement, leadership, and personal growth are points to highlight on your resume and in your essays.
