Scholarship Summary:
HWS offers generous scholarships and grants to incoming freshmen students (domestic and international) which recognize outstanding academic and personal achievement gained through hard-work and commitment. Annual scholarship and grant amounts are divided evenly between the fall and spring semesters.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must;
i. Obtain a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 or equivalent
Value of Scholarship:
The HWS Freshmen Scholarships range from $3,000 - $40,000 and are namely as follows;
i. Seneca Scholarship: Full Tuition {3 awards available}
ii. Presidential Scholarship for Inclusive Excellence (3.6 GPA & 1370 SAT/30 ACT)
iii. William Scandling ‘49 Trustee Scholarship (3.7 GPA & 1370 SAT/30 ACT)
iv. Elizabeth Blackwell ‘49 Pioneer in Science Scholarship (3.7 GPA & 1370 SAT/30 ACT)
v. Trustee Scholarship for Environmental Sustainability (1370 SAT/30 ACT)
vi. Finger Lakes Scholarship (3.7 GPA)
vii. Dean’s Scholarship (3.5 GPA & 1320 SAT/29 ACT)
viii. Centennial Center Scholarship (3.5 GPA & 1320 SAT/29 ACT)
ix. Edward E. Rigney ‘31 Debate Scholarship (3.5 GPA & 1320 SAT/29 ACT)
x. Civic Engagement Scholarship
xi. Arts Scholars Program
Recipients must meet satisfactory academic progress, uphold community standards and maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply;
i. Apply to Hobart and William Smith Colleges using the Common Application.
ii. Applicants now do not need to complete a separate scholarship application to be considered for a merit scholarship at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Indicate interest by selecting "yes" to merit scholarship interest in your Common Application questions. Qualification is determined through your admissions review process. Each student can only be awarded one scholarship.
iii. In order to be considered for the Seneca Scholarship, students must first be a named scholar and attend one of the admitted student events in the spring.
iv. Some scholarships might require an interview
