Scholarship Summary:
Vanderbilt University awards the merit-based Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship to applicants (domestic and international) who demonstrate exceptional accomplishment and intellectual promise. Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars are selected on the basis of academic achievement, intellectual promise, and leadership and contribution outside the classroom.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
There are no set criteria for consideration but Cornelius Vanderbilt scholars represent the top 1 percent of all freshman applicants to Vanderbilt.
Value of Scholarship:
The benefits of the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship include;
i. Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars receive full tuition, plus a one-time summer stipend for an immersive experience following the sophomore or junior year. Scholarships are renewed each year as long as the recipient maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.
ii. Vanderbilt will provide additional need-based financial aid to those Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship recipients whose demonstrated need exceeds the amount of full-tuition.
iii. Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars have the opportunity to participate in a series of programs designed especially for highly talented students.
Scholarship Application Guide:
To apply,
i. Students must first apply for admission separately by submitting the Common Application, Coalition Application, or the QuestBridge Application to Vanderbilt.
ii. Within two business days of submitting your application for admission to Vanderbilt, you will receive an email from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions explaining how to create your online MyAppVU account. Under the Scholarship tab in MyAppVU, you will be able to select the signature scholarship(s) to which you wish to apply.
iii. Through your MyAppVU portal, you will upload your responses for the scholarship applications as a PDF or Word document and submit online. Once you submit your scholarship application online, you will receive immediate confirmation indicating the date of submission. You will also see a green check mark which indicates the application was submitted successfully.
In evaluating candidates, the selection committees review the entire application for freshman admissions along with the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship application.
