Academically exceptional freshmen (domestic and international) may earn a four-year UB Presidential Scholarship, the most selective and highly valued award in the SUNY system.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
While there are no minimum criteria for consideration as it is based on each year's incoming class, for the 2024 Presidential scholar class, the unweighted GPA ranged from a 95% to 100%, with most being admitted at 97%.
The University at Buffalo is test optional this year and standardized test scores are not required to apply for this scholarship.
Presidential Scholarship funding is only available to New York State residents.

Value of Scholarship:
The Presidential Scholarship is valued as follows;
i. This scholarship is valued at $15,000 annually for New York State Residents(when combined with other scholarships and grants, this amount may not exceed the cost of attendance), renewable for four years of undergraduate study.
ii. International and out-of-state students are eligible and encouraged to apply for the Presidential Scholarship. If selected, this scholarship could be valued at up to $20,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Students who receive Presidential Scholarships will participate in the Honors College Presidential Scholars Program and take a one credit Presidential Scholar Seminar (HON 101) in their first semester.

To apply,
i. You must first submit your application to the University at Buffalo using either the Common app or SUNY Application.
ii. Typically within a week after submission, you will receive an email from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions with instructions for logging into the applicant status website for UB.
iii. Once you have received your login information, you can then apply for the .
iv. Students who receive Presidential Scholarships are automatically admitted to the Honors College.
