Scholarship Summary: 
Top-performing domestic incoming freshmen to the GSU Honors Program are considered for the prestigious University Honors scholarships.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria: 
There are no set criteria but the Honors College seeks scholars interested in research, change agents interested in engaging local and global communities, and individuals seeking to explore their curiosity and express their creativity. There are no minimum grades or test scores required to apply but admission is competitive.

Value of Scholarship: 
The GSU Honors College offers the following scholarships to select incoming freshmen: 
i. The Goel Scholarship - A full-ride scholarship that covers tuition, fees, books, room and board for up to eight semesters. Recipients must be first generation college students, have demonstrated financial need, and be a resident of Georgia or a border state of Georgia (Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee).

ii. The 1906 Scholarship - A full tuition scholarship for up to eight semesters.

iii. The Honors College Scholarship - Scholarship awards of half-tuition for up to 8 semesters.

iv. Honors Global Scholars - In addition to participation in the opportunities in the Honors Global Scholars program, students will receive a $2,000 annual scholarship for up to 8 semesters.

v. Honors Savannah Scholars - In addition to participation in the opportunities in the Honors Savannah Scholars program, students will receive a $2,000 annual scholarship for up to 8 semesters.

Scholarship Application Guide: 
To apply for admission to the Honors College as an incoming freshman, 
i. Students must complete the general admissions application to Georgia Southern University or through the Common App: 
  • The will be available within the general admissions application or through the Common App. You will be asked if you’re interested in applying to the Honors College. Select “yes,” and you can complete your Honors College application right then. 
  • In the Honors College application, you will be asked to write a brief essay and share the following information:
  1. Extra-curricular involvement 
  2. Work experience
  3. Identify the number of AP, IB, or dual enrollment courses you have taken 
ii. On the application, you will also have the opportunity to apply for the Honors Global Scholars or Honors Savannah Scholars, two special cohort programs for incoming freshmen, which require additional essays.

iii. The Honors College will review applications and select candidates to participate in interviews. 
  • A select number of applicants who apply by the above priority deadline will be invited to campus to interview for prestigious Honors College scholarships. Interview days will be held on February 13, 2026 (Armstrong Campus) and February 20, 2026 (Statesboro Campus).
  • If selected to interview, a formal invitation with details will be communicated to the applicants.

iv. Out of that pool of interviewees, the Honors College will select who receives awards.
