Scholarship Summary:
The NIU Presidential Scholars Program recognizes outstanding domestic first-year students for their hard work and academic accomplishments. Approximately 10 students will receive this award each year.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria:
The requirements necessary for consideration are as follows;
i. Obtain a minimum high school GPA of 3.8 (4.00 scale)
ii. First-time, full-time, incoming freshman student
iii. Domestic Residency
iv. Must file the FAFSA
or Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid by February 15, 2024. Recipients will be required to accept all state and federal grants and will be held to the maximum award amount up to the cost of attendance.
Value of Scholarship:
This scholarship covers all required costs as follows: tuition, fees, room and board, and book stipend for four years.

Scholarship Application Guide:
The application process is as follows;
1) August 1, 2023: Application for admission into NIU begins.
2) Eligible students will be invited to apply on a rolling basis. Letters will be sent approximately two weeks after being admitted.
3) December 1, 2023: Application for admission and all required documents for admissions must be received by December 1. Late submissions will not be considered.
4) December 11, 2023 - January 11, 2024: Online application will be available. January 11 is the deadline to submit the scholarship application. Late submissions will not be accepted.
5) Mid-February 2024: Applicants notified of application status on a rolling basis. Finalists will be invited to participate in a virtual interview. Interview dates/times are TBD.
6) Mid-March 2024: Recipients notified.
