Scholarship Summary: 
The Mandela Scholarship was established in the University of Sussex in 1973 to protest against the injustice of apartheid and raise the profile of Nelson Mandela’s struggle for freedom. This scholarship will be provided to two South African postgraduate students who can give evidence of how they will embrace the values of Mandela and use their postgraduate degree to make a positive contribution towards their community and home country.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria: 
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
i. have applied and received an offer for a full time, eligible Masters degree at Sussex starting in September 2024
ii. be a South African national
iii. hold a good undergraduate degree from an African university, the equivalent of a UK Upper Second class degree

Preference may be given to candidates with work experience, who see a Masters at Sussex as a catalyst for future career development. Preference will also be given to applicants that do not already hold the equivalent of a UK Masters degree.

Value of Scholarship: 
The Sussex Mandela Scholarship is valued as a full tuition fee waiver and £14,400 maintenance grant.
